Improving yourself should be the mantra of every man. Investing a small amount of time into hobbies can create big differences later. That’s why we have a nice list of 10 hobby ideas you should try out. Most of these you can start today so there’s no excuses!
10 Hobby Ideas for Men
#1 – Weightlifting
Working out is fun, improves your health and gets you in better shape. The best part about it? You only need to do it a few times a week for about 30 minutes. Weightlifting is the go-to form of exercise for men around the world. There’s something about throwing around weights that’s just plain old awesome. You don’t need to lift heavy weights or have 3 hour workouts to reap the benefits. Go grab a local gym membership or even buy weights to use at home.
#2 – Meditating
Imagine being more focused, emotionally resilient and present throughout your day. That’s possible with consistent 5 to 10 minute meditation sessions. You don’t have to be Buddha and meditate all day. Sure, the more the better but even just a few minutes can do great things. In 2011, Harvard researchers along with Massachusetts General Hospital performed an 8 week study on meditation. The findings concluded a positive change in brain structure and grey matter.
#3 – Reading
If you read 52 books on any given subject, you have the equivalent to PhD level knowledge. That’s one book per week. Reading is a great way to learn new things and pass the time. You don’t have to read a book per week, even one per month is an awesome rate to go at. Personally I love reading pure non fiction so I can teach myself things about business, self development and alike. E-books and audio books are very convenient for when you’re on-the-go.
#4 – Journaling
Putting all of your ideas and plans onto paper is great. All of that clutter can be released by just picking up a pen and writing. Journaling is also good for elaborating on goals, tracking progress, and reflecting on your day. You’d be surprised how fun it is to journal once you get into the habit of it.
#5 – Running
I don’t think there’s any more convenient form of exercise than running. You can do it anywhere at any time. You can run 1k or 5k, it doesn’t matter. It’s also a great time to listen to useful podcasts and audiobooks. If the weather permits, go for a run outside or in nature. Hitting a treadmill is necessary at times like in the winter. You don’t need anything special to get started either, just a pair of running shoes. It’s the best form of exercise for health and longevity.
#6 – Music
Everyone has a creative side, you just have to find what suits you best. Maybe you’re more of a guitar or drums kinda guy? For me, since I’m skilled with computers, I naturally ended up getting into producing and engineering. Think about what you like the most about when you listen to music(the keys for example) and get started learning. Basic equipment is pretty cheap and there’s tons of resources online.
#7 – Blogging
Do you like writing? Have a lot of ideas and opinions? Then you should try blogging. There are tons of free platforms like WordPress, Weebly, Wix and others to take advantage of. You can write about whatever you want and if you get good enough, you might even make some money from it.
#8 – Hiking
What’s better than being in nature and getting some exercise? Hiking is a fun activity to do alone or with a bunch of friends. Pack some water and food for your trek. Scout out local trails or go for a roadtrip somewhere to get in a good hike.
#9 – Cooking
You eat everyday so why not learn to make delicious meals? Learning to cook is easy as picking up a cook book and getting the ingredients. You’ll be able to impress company and your significant other too.
#10 – Airsoft
Airsoft is a great competitive hobby for men. It will take a bit of an investment to get a gun and the right gear but it’s loads of fun. Some places you can play airsoft at will let you rent equipment so you may not even need to buy your own.
