If you don’t handle the winter weather properly, it will get the best of you. Here in Canada we’ve had no short supply of snow and heavy winds. Luckily this means we have some experience in dealing with it. Avoid these 5 common mistakes and you’ll breeze through this winter.
Layers, Layers, Layers
To avoid being cold and getting sick, wear many layers. Under your sweater, have a long sleeve shirt and an under-shirt beneath that. Wear long-johns under your pants if you have them too. With your coat over this you’ll be feeling very warm. Check the weather before you head out to know if it will be getting colder or warm as the day progresses. It’s typical to under-dress or over-dress and then when you leave work or school you’re not prepared.
It’s The Small Things That Count
If you’re not equipped with a hat, scarf, mittens, and good socks this winter you’re doing it wrong. Get a good hat that is simple and warm, preferably composed of wool. Colours like black, navy, and gray are wise choices. Avoid pom-poms and similar styles as they look childish. You can have some fun with your scarf regarding its pattern and colour. As long as it keeps your neck warm and matches your outfit, you’re good to go. Mittens or gloves are also a necessity. If you chose mittens, make sure they are high quality and don’t fall apart. Leather gloves with lining are the best decision though. Finally don’t forget a thick pair of socks to keep your feet warm!
Thin Jackets & Coats
So you have your layers and accessories down but you need a suitable coat. They act as an outer shell to protect you fully from the cold and wind. Don’t make the mistake of choosing a jacket that is too thin as you’ll feel it when you’re outside. One of the most in-style coats right now is the overcoat. You typically see it in a sharp camel brown and because of this it has been coined the camel coat. Black, olive, navy, and gray are also great colours to get though. Peacoats are still in fashion and will keep you warm if you prefer those. It’s all personal preference as long as it matches your style and keeps you warm.
The Wrong Shoes
The winter is a time of year you have to be the most footwear conscious. You have to choose carefully and take care of them or they’ll be lost to the elements. You should have at least one pair of boots in your rotation whether they are dress boots, chelseas, or other. As long as they protect your feet and look great you can’t go wrong. If you’re wearing good leather or suede, spray it before you leave the house. Here’s some boots we currently offer you should consider:
To beat the winter this year, up the amount of layers you wear. Have a solid coat over top of this, good footwear, and don’t skimp out on gloves, scarves, and a hat.
