Aldo Group is a Canadian retailer that operates a worldwide shoe and accessory store chain. The company was founded by Aldo Bensadoun in Montreal, Quebec during 1972. This is where the brand got its name from and Montreal is where the headquarters are located to this day. They run under three different names, ALDO, Call It Spring/Spring, and GLOBO. With over 3,000 stores in Canada, the U.S, U.K and Europe they have quickly taken over the shoe market.
Aldo Bensadoun comes from a family that has been in the shoe industry for years. His father was a shoe retailer over in Morocco and France. Aldo went on to learn how to speak Italian so he could better communicate with his suppliers. This enabled him to cut out the middleman and make business much easier and profitable.
In 1987, the first Aldo shop was opened in Montreal. The company expanded quickly in the 80’s and 90’s with stores openinng all across Canada. Many Canadian shoe retailers failed while trying to get into the US market but Aldo has been one of the successors. In 1990 Aldo opened a shop in Plattsburgh, N.Y to see what the results would be across the border. The brand went on to expand into Israel, Saudi Arabia, England, and even Singapore to test logistics, marketing, and hiring.
Since then they have paired up with JCPenney, partnered with Kohl’s, and raised millions for HIV awareness on top of growing a wonderful company. We’ve put together the best shoes of varying categories from them if you’re in need of classy, comfortable footwear.
