Who doesn’t love a nice pair of tassel loafers? We know our friend Carl @the_gentlemans_shoes certainly does and today he has brought us a heap of shoe inspiration. He is sporting burgundy tassel loafers that also feature a fringed tongue that is known as a kiltie.
The kiltie originates from Scotland and was an invention thought up by the Duke of Windsor. It’s purpose was to protect the instep from dirt and also to prevent the laces from catching onto things as this was normally put on brogues. Nowadays we see it on several different shoes including loafers like Carl has on. We’d say it has evolved more into a style accessory, especially when it’s subtle.
Along with his purple loafers, Carl nails the classic fashion rule that your socks should always match your pants. The fun blue design contrasts but blends in at the same time with his blue trousers. It’s believed that loafers originated from comfortable shoes that fishermen used in Norway when they were brought back by students. Companies like G. H. Bass began to produce these with an overlying strap, which created the famous penny loafer. From there loafers have evolved into a timeless footwear all men should have. They have the versatility to be worn casually with shorts and a polo shirt or a well tailored suit.
